POST-MATCH REPORT
Sportsfreunde Ökumene 1-3 Motherland Berlin SC
Motherland Berlin SC secured a crucial win on matchday 18 with a commanding second-half performance in Steglitz.
The first half was a tense affair, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. The deadlock remained unbroken as the teams headed into halftime.
However, the game sparked into life early in the second half. A misplaced pass in midfield allowed Sportsfreunde Ökumene to launch a quick counter-attack, resulting in the opening goal in the 51st minute. The setback served as a wake-up call for our team, who responded just nine minutes later. A precise long ball from the left found substitute Henry Meli on the right, and he made no mistake, drilling a low shot past the goalkeeper to bring us level in the 60th minute.
With momentum shifting in our favor, we took the lead in the 70th minute. Joseph I. skillfully dribbled past the goalkeeper before delivering a pinpoint cross into the box, where Emmanuel rose to head home and put us in front.
The hosts pushed for an equalizer, but our defense stood firm. In stoppage time, we sealed the victory in style. Henry Meli turned provider again, linking up with Sherifdeen B. on the left. Instead of going for goal, Sherifdeen unselfishly squared the ball back for Henry, who calmly finished to secure all three points.
This crucial win moves us up to 3rd place with 28 points, keeping our title ambitions alive. We also have a game in hand, giving us a strong position in the race for promotion.
Next up, we face bottom-placed Knallrot Wilmersdorf next Saturday as we look to continue our push towards the top.
